Real Flowers Resin Pendants

Real Flowers Resin Pendants

I've always wanted to try making pressed flowers pendants so i tried it for the first time yesterday (17/04/14) .

And they turned out great ! ..Only one boo boo(mistake) one ..out of 8 pendants so not all bad for a beginner hehe .

Anyway ..heres how i made them :)

What You'll Need

Real Flowers
Any Shape mold ( I used a plastic heart mold)
Two part Ice Resin Jewelers Grade
Cocktail Sticks
Lolly sticks
Gloves
2 small mixing cups
1 large mixing cup
Tweezers

Firstly pick some Flowers from your garden or a friends . I got some from my lovely in-laws garden as i unfortunately don't have one.  Then i put them in a Flower Press to flatten them ..But  if you don't have one put them in between a thick blank book , has to be a  blank book due to the flowers bleeding  thru the  pages , and put something heavy on top of it for a few days .I left my flowers in the flower press for a week and they flattened great . So its up to you how many days you want to leave them in the press or book ..depends how flat you want them :) ..

Now i used a plastic heart mold but you can use any plastic tray /shape mold or silicone molds. Many crafters use baking molds or sweet molds ..
that's what this is from :)  I dont recommend using hard plastic molds as they are quite difficult to release the resin peices out of  .Thin plastic or silicone molds are easier to use for resin .:)

I used two part Ice Resin ( Jewellers Grade) . I mixed one part hardener in one cup it has to be same equal amount in each cup of hardener and resin . I poured both equal amounts into the large mixing cup , then stirred the resin mixture for two mins with the lolly stick  to make it clear and the bubbles raised . If their is too many bubbles still put under a light ..to heat it up a bit . Or you can use a straw to blow the bubbles out or use a cocktail stick to burst the bigger bubbles .

Once the mixture is clear-ish it doesn't matter if their are still few bubbles present as when it sets the bubbles will rise out .

Pour resin mixture using lolly stick slowly into your chosen mold . Only pour a tiny amount , don't fill the mold shape to the top . As you're only doing first layer then adding your flowers using tweezers very gently , so you don't damage them . Add them to the mold then using a cocktail stick move them into the position you want .

As pictured here , you can see the flowers in the mold in the shallow resin .

Once you've added all your flowers to your mold in the resin , let it set for an hour . This will stop your flowers rising to the back of your pendant . Then after an hour, use the remainder of your resin to your pendants and fill them to the top . Wipe away any spillages , I used the lolly stick to help but it can be messy.

Then wait 24 hours for your pendants to set ! .

then pop them out & sand the edges and add a bail or using a hand screwdriver put a small hole in the top for a jump ring. :)..Have fun !

Heres my Real Flower Resin Pendants :) .
