Tips : How To Make Clay Hearts Home Decor

I really loved those cute chic kinda hearts you see in shop windows . But seen the price of them ..as on a budget i couldn't buy them so i wondered if i could actually make some myself .So i tried it out and they turned out great . Heres how i made them .

Heres My Shabby Style Clay Hearts! ( They make great gifts !)

Things You'll Need

Air Dry Clay (any Brand)
Rolling Pin
Knife/scissors
stamps/Embossing Folder or Toothpick (too add your own design).
Pencil(for making a hole in the centre for hanging .
Heart Shape Cutters/Cookie Cutters (Optional)
make sure to have card or greaseproof paper down so clay as will get messy !

Once Dry ,You'll Need

Sandpaper
Acrylic Paint (if painting them)
Card stock/paper/Photo's (Optional)
Multi-purpose Acrylic Sealer
Craft String or Ribbon
Glue(any Prittstick)

Pliers are not needed for this project . (they were used for making Pendants.)

step 1

Soften the Clay in your palms (maybe add a little water to soften it ) .Once the Air Dry clay is softened enough to shape , use Heart Shaped Cookie cutters if your using ,to make your heart Shape or if your not using Cookie cutter , shape the heart yourself using your imagination , Once you've made your desired heart shape , use the pencil to make a tiny hole in the centre for hanging once dry .

Using a Toothpick create any patterns or writing desired . If unsure of any designs you can use any stamps or Embossing Folders on the clay hearts. Be careful not to press too hard when using stamps or Embossing Folders as the clay is still soft ! press lightly .

Here's some of my clay hearts that i Embossed using my Sizzix Folders.

(It doesn't matter if some hearts are uneven as once dry they can be sanded )

Step3

Wait 24 Hours for clay to harden then they will be ready to be decorated/painted !! Once they're dry sand off excess edges or if they're un-evan .

You can use acrylic paints to decorate your hearts or You can leave them blank if you like , Or you can add Designs from Cardstock ,Photo's , Printed designs , Simply glue (use any prittstick) the card stock to your blank heart , then use scissors to cut around the edges of your heart . Press firmly and dont forget to use a pencil to push thru the hole on the front of the card stock for hanging it . Then coat the heart with a Multi-purpose Acrylic Sealer, I used Decoart Multipurpose Sealer . Then wait an hour til dry then using a pencil if difficult , to push thru string/ribbon thru the hole of your clay heart , then voila..your Cute , Chic style heart is finished !!!
